The Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) program was created as a federal tax incentive program to encourage Canadian companies of all sizes and industries to conduct research and development (R&D) in Canada . Claimants are able to apply for tax credits for expenditures such as wages, materials, machinery, equipment, overhead, and contracts. The program is the most generous of its kind in the world, with over $4 billion being paid annually to over 18 000 claimants.
