The Native Council of Nova Scotia (NCNS) is the self-governing authority for the two thirds of Mi'kmaq/Aboriginal persons in the province who live off-reserve. NCNS has operated for 35 years serving, advocating and representing this community.

NCNS is now creating an economic development strategy designed to uncover business and related opportunities for the organization, its stakeholders and future partners. The strategy is comprised of four pillars:

·         Employment

·         Business Acquisition

·         Procurement Opportunities

·         Business Partnerships

Priority objectives of this project therefore include the identification of new mutually beneficial relationships and business partnerships.

The Regional SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) sessions will offer participants the opportunity to identify such opportunities as funding resources, business (acquisition and/or partnerships), procurement and others while contributing to the development of the NCNS Economic Development Strategy.

This session will be of greatest interest to businesses, government and related organizations interested in uncovering potential partnerships, business opportunities, and responding to such issues as labour market challenges

The session agenda includes:

·         Summary of project economic, business and labour market research.

·         Explanation of the four pillars of the NCNS Economic Development Strategy.

·         Assessment of regional Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats.

·         Discussion of implications and NCNS opportunities.

·         Selection of priority actions to be considered for the NCNS Economic Development Strategy.
