What's the BIG Idea? Pitch Competition

To celebrate Small Business Week, SMUBDC is hosting the What's the Big Idea? Pitch Competition to engage university students in the field of entrepreneurship. A wide range of university students across the region will be competing to see who has the best business pitch!

We invite you to come join us for a night full of excitement when the 6 finalists present a 10 minute pitch of their original business idea to a panel of distinguished judges, fellow students and business professionals... including you! 

On October 20th one talented university student will receive a prize of $3000 and the opportunity to have their business idea come to life. While we are waiting for the judges to tabulate their results, we will also be hosting a networking reception and reverse tradeshow where students who made it to the second phase of the competition, including the finalists, will invite you to find out more about their business ideas!

Keynote Speaker

DUNCAN ENMAN 

In 2004, while a full-time student at Saint Mary's Univeristy, Duncan Enman started Can Stock Photo Inc., an online stock photography company. Upon his graduation in 2007, Can Stock Photo had grown to become the largest Canadian owned agencies and one of the top 10 in the world, with over 400,000 photos and 8 employees.

In 2008, Duncan sold Can Stock Photo to a large US competitor, who subsequently hired him as General Manager. In addition to running the company he founded, Duncan also runs a technology development company with clients ranging from local non profits to a multinational brewery. Duncan also recently organized the 2009 World Laser Sailing Championships, as well as started an online apartment search engine, RentDonkey.ca.
