Europe Export Education Program: Selling to the UK and Europe

The Europe Export Education Program is open to active exporters to domestic and US markets who are looking to broaden into markets in the UK and Europe.

Coordinated by Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and Nova Scotia Business Inc., the program is a hands-on look at the process of exporting to the UK and Europe. It will provide you with information about the essentials of exporting and first-hand exposure to the European marketplace without the pressure of having to make sales.

Workshop topics may include the following:

  • Market entry strategies
  • Selecting agents and distributors
  • Legal and tax issues
  • Tariff and regulatory guidelines
  • Banking and legal considerations
  • Logistics, warehousing and distribution
  • EU certification
  • Export financing and insurance
  • Customs clearance procedures and certification
  • Immigration policies and requirements

The format of the program will consist of the following:

  • Depart Halifax Airport to London, England March 5, 2011, overnight flight. 
  • Sunday, March 6, free day, group dinner in the evening.
  • Monday, March 7, and ½ day on Tuesday, March 8, London program begins including: an exporting workshop; networking opportunities; tours and/or meetings intended to help you understand selling your products or services in the UK and Europe.
  • Tuesday, March 8, late afternoon departure for Amsterdam.
  • Wednesday, March 9, full-day workshop on Doing Business in the Netherlands (coordinated by World Trade Centre Atlantic Canada)
  • Wednesday, March 9, evening flight to Heathrow, overnight at Airport Hotel.
  • Thursday, March 10, return to Halifax.

Participant benefits:

The cost to participate in the program is $500. This includes:

  • Return airfare to London, England (up to a maximum of $1,000 CDN and will be reimbursed upon return to Nova Scotia. You must submit an invoice and e-ticket to be reimbursed);
  • Exporter education program in London and Amsterdam;
  • Networking event; and
  • Ground transportation in London and Amsterdam

Participating companies will incur no additional costs for the Amsterdam portion of the program.  Airfare and hotel accommodation for Amsterdam will be paid on your behalf by World Trade Centre Atlantic Canada, funded by ACOA.

All participants of the Europe Export Education Program to London and Amsterdam are eligible to receive the services of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency Export Mentoring program as part of their registration fee.  The normal mentoring fee of $500 will be waived and the value of the mentoring could be worth up to $5,000.  The Export Mentoring program will provide participants with up to 40 hours of export mentoring consulting services.  Participants will be matched with a consultant best suited to meet their needs. Participant costs: Participants are responsible for the cost of accommodations for three nights and meals in London. As stated above, the airfare from Halifax-London return will be reimbursed upon return.

 To be eligible, you must:

  • Be an active exporter in domestic and US markets;
  • Have a manufacturing or service business in Nova Scotia; and
  • Hold a valid passport required for air travel to European markets.
