Abstract:

Islandora is an open source ecosystem which combines the Drupal CMS, the Fedora repository system and a host of other applications to create a rich and flexible system for managing any digital asset collection. Islandora was developed at the University of PEI and is used to steward assets ranging from digital library collections to complex research data. The software is being used at organizations across the world from a wide range of domains. DiscoveryGarden is a commercial spin-off from UPEI that provides a full range of services for the Islandora system. This session will provide an overview of the system as well as some of the opportunities and challenges in building and nurturing an open source framework.
