A Tutorial on Differential Geometry, Lie Algebras and Lie

                              Groups with Maple.

This tutorial aims to introduce participants to the application of Maple to do basic calculations in differential geometry (vector fields, differential forms and tensors) and Lie theory.  Participants should bring a laptop with an installed version of Maple (Release 13 or higher is best , Release 11 or higher is OK) Some experience with Maple would be helpful.

About the speaker: Ian Anderson is a Professor of Mathematics at Utah State University.  He has worked and published widely in differential geometry, differential equations, mathematical physics, and symbolic computation.  At present he is the implementer and maintainer of the core differential geometry package in Maple.

Note: please contact the organizer <robert.milson@dal.ca> if you are interested in participating, but don't have access to Maple. For more on Maple availability at Dalhousie see http://its.dal.ca/services/computer_services/downloads/maple_intro.html
